Dr. Michael Fein Appointed 海角精品黑料 and MUHC Division Director of Allergy and Immunology

We are delighted to announce the appointment of Dr. Michael Fein, MD, MSc, FRCPC, as the new 海角精品黑料 and MUHC Division Director of Allergy and Immunology in the Department of Medicine at 海角精品黑料.

Dr. Fein envisions a future in which the Division of Allergy and Immunology becomes a model of innovation, integration, and translational excellence. Building on its strong foundation, the division will continue to advance cutting-edge research and clinical care in response to the rising burden of atopic and immunologic diseases, positioning the department at the forefront of discovery and patient-centered innovation.

Dr. Fein is an assistant professor of medicine and a clinician-teacher at 海角精品黑料 and serves as Quality Lead and former Residency Program Director for the Division of Allergy and Immunology. During his tenure as Program Director, he oversaw the expansion of the training program into one of the largest in Canada, including the creation and growth of four advanced fellowship programs in Drug Allergy, Reproductive Immunology, Immune Deficiency, and Eosinophilic Gastrointestinal Diseases.

His research interests include immunologic skin diseases, medical education, and quality improvement. He co-founded the MUHC Multi-Disciplinary Allergy鈥揇ermatology Clinic for complex patients with chronic urticaria or mastocytosis, part of the international UCARE (Urticaria Centers of Reference and Excellence) network. Dr. Fein is also a member of the MUHC Centre of Excellence for Atopic Dermatitis, where he has integrated specialty clinic collaboration with the Immune Deficiency Treatment Centre to advance both patient care and clinical research.

Dr. Fein holds a master鈥檚 degree in Quality Improvement from the London School of Economics. A dedicated educator, he has restructured the Allergy and Immunology curriculum to enhance resident engagement and academic rigor. He co-authored The Manual of Clinical Immunology & Allergy and founded AllergyIQ.ca, an innovative national learning platform designed to develop a unified Allergy鈥揑mmunology curriculum for undergraduate and postgraduate medical training across Canada.

He is an active member of national and international allergy and immunology organizations, presenting at international conferences and contributing to the advancement of the field through clinical research and authorship of position statements for the Canadian Society of Allergy & Clinical Immunology (CSACI), where he previously served as a Board Member.

He is excited about promoting further integration within the DOM through the growth of specialized multidisciplinary clinics in asthma, eosinophilic esophagitis, autoinflammatory disease, urticaria/mastocytosis, atopic dermatitis, and chronic rhinosinusitis. He also aims to expand quality improvement initiatives such as drug allergy de-labelling programs and antimicrobial stewardship projects (including the ongoing iNAAN penicillin de-labelling study at the MUHC) and to promote translational research within the division through strengthened collaborations with basic immunologists at the Research Institute and clinician-scientists.

We would like to take this opportunity to thank Dr. Christos Tsoukas, who Dr. Fein succeeds, for his many years of dedicated service and leadership within the Division. His contributions have greatly advanced the Division鈥檚 clinical and academic missions, and we extend our deepest appreciation for his commitment to excellence.
