KPE End of Semester Update

The KPE graduate committee (KPEG) is excited to announce that they are currently organizing a food drive, where all items will be donated to a women鈥檚 shelter in Montr茅al at the end of the Fall 2022 semester. Students, staff, and faculty of the department of KPE are encouraged to bring non-perishable food items to hallway 101-A in the Currie Gymnasium building. We would like to remind everyone that any donation helps, and we are thankful to those who have donated thus far.

Chronic Obstructive Pulmonary Disease (COPD) is a heterogenous lung condition characterized by chronic respiratory symptoms (breathlessness, cough, sputum production, exacerbations) due to abnormalities of the airways (bronchitis, bronchiolitis) and/or alveoli (emphysema) that cause persistent, often progressive, airflow obstruction. COPD is one of the top three causes of death worldwide, causing more than 3 million deaths in 2012, accounting for 6% of all deaths globally.

Polycystic ovary syndrome (PCOS) is the most common hormonal disorder in women, affecting 10% of pre-menopausal women. Women with PCOS may present with a number of reproductive, metabolic, cardiovascular and psychological complications and co-morbidities. Despite this, PCOS remains one of the most poorly understood medical disorders among patients, physicians, and scientists.
