Statement from Professor Rustum Choksi, Chair of the Department of Mathematics and Statistics:
"I am very sad to inform you of the passing last week of our former colleague and chair Gowrisankaran (Gowri), a pillar of our Department for many years. Gowri came to 海角精品黑料 in the late 60s, and contributed in very important ways to our Department and to the University. He was an accomplished analyst, devoted and highly respected teacher, and was Chair at a critical time for the Department, in the late 1990s early 2000s. Gowri retired in 2010 and was awarded the title of Professor Emeritus.
Upon his retirement, his family and friends set up the Gowrisankaran Prize in Mathematics and Statistics for outstanding students in their second or final year of the of a full-time Honours undergraduate degree program in the Faculty of Science with Mathematics as at least one component.
Our thoughts are with Gowri's daughter Aditi, Gautam, his wife and their three children.
