STM strike November 1 to 28

Dear members of the ��Ǿ�Ʒ�� community,

The STM has announced that a maintenance workers’ strike will take place from November 1 to November 28, unless an agreement is reached. The Syndicat des chauffeurs, opérateurs et agents de station has also announced a complete service strike for tomorrow, November 1.

ID card required for building access on Tuesday, October 7

On Tuesday, October 7, access to university buildings on ��Ǿ�Ʒ��’s downtown and Macdonald campuses will be restricted to ��Ǿ�Ʒ�� students, employees and essential visitors on university business.

A valid ��Ǿ�Ʒ��-issued ID card will be required to enter buildings. Travel on campus should be planned accordingly:

Upcoming STM Strike

Dear members of the ��Ǿ�Ʒ�� community,

The STM has announced a 9-day maintenance workers’ strike scheduled from Monday, June 9 to Tuesday, June 17, inclusive.

While some level of transit will be maintained, reductions to Metro and bus service have been announced. For the most up to date information regarding impacts and schedules for the Metro, bus and paratransit services during the strike please consult the STM’s website.

Dear colleagues,

At the February 7 Town Hall, we announced that in order to address a projected $45M operating deficit in the 2025-26 fiscal year, it would likely be necessary to reduce ��Ǿ�Ʒ��’s workforce by 350-500 people. We said at the time that although we hoped this could be achieved mainly through attrition, layoffs were likely unavoidable.

Today, the Quebec Superior Court issued a judgment granting an injunction against Students for Palestine’s Honour and Resistance (SPHR) and all those who become aware of the judgment. The provisional injunction will remain valid for 10 days.

Yesterday afternoon, ��Ǿ�Ʒ�� proceeded through all steps necessary in the protocols we use for demonstration. We informed participants that this encampment was not authorized and gave them time to gather their belongings and leave the premises. However, most have chosen to remain. As we worked through the steps, we also engaged in dialogue with representatives of ��Ǿ�Ʒ�� students.

Over the past 48 hours, the university leadership has made concerted efforts to engage in open dialogue and reach a mutual resolution with the ��Ǿ�Ʒ�� students involved in the encampment.

The situation escalated yesterday afternoon with the arrival of external protesters and a significant increase in the number of tents on campus. In the late afternoon/early evening, the ��Ǿ�Ʒ�� students indicated through their lawyers their refusal to engage in discussion and that they intended to remain on campus indefinitely.
